Karma, Walls, and Repeating Lessons
There is a profound difference between a boundary and a barrier.
When a connection shifts, maturity allows us to acknowledge what was built, even if the dynamic needs to change. It takes a level of internal security to handle transitions with grace and look at a situation honestly, not just with the mind, but with the soul.
However, when an ego is fragile, it struggles to handle a clean ending. Instead, it often resorts to quiet hostility, dropping passive-aggressive jabs/hints, avoiding real conversations, and ultimately building a wall of silence.
Shutting down or blocking someone out isn’t a sign of moving on. It’s usually just a shield used to avoid sitting in the discomfort of our own behavior. Spiritual bypassing, at its finest.
And discomfort, when avoided long enough, doesn’t disappear. It waits.
Sometimes the wall isn’t silence at all. It’s a story. Rewriting what happened, softening our own role, or recasting ourselves as the one who was wronged can feel like protection in the moment, but it isn’t healing. It’s performance. Controlling the narrative to save face doesn’t undo the pattern. It reinforces it. Every version of events we shape to avoid looking honestly at our own part in it is the same lesson wearing a different disguise, still waiting to be learned the honest way instead of managed around.
Astrologically, energetically, this is exactly the release this moment is asking of all of us.
With the South Node currently in Leo, we’re being asked to recognize and release this very pattern: the need to perform, to control how we’re perceived, to keep an audience even after the relationship itself has ended. Leo’s shadow isn’t confidence. It’s the performance of the self in place of the truth of it. The North Node in Aquarius is asking for something quieter and more honest in its place: authenticity that doesn’t require anyone watching to be real.
This is where the law of karma steps in.
Karma isn’t punishment. It’s memory. It’s the soul’s way of holding onto what hasn’t yet been understood. Life is a patient teacher, and it will present us with the exact same emotional lessons over and over again until we finally learn how to face them with integrity. Sure, we can change the scenery, move on to new social circles, and surround ourselves with entirely different players. But if we haven’t healed the underlying pattern, the soul will simply recreate the exact same cycle with new faces, asking the same question in a new voice until we finally answer it.
When you are on the receiving end of this kind of emotional withdrawal, or worse, the false narratives and distorted stories that often follow it, the most powerful defense is absolute silence. It is tempting to argue, correct the lies, or demand clarity, but responding to passive-aggression only feeds the drama.
Holding your peace isn’t a sign of submission. It’s a conscious decision to protect your own energy, and a spiritual practice in its own right.
By choosing not to chase someone behind the walls they built, you allow their choices to stand, and you leave them alone with the consequences of their own actions, while you return to tend fully to your own. Defending your truth doesn’t require shouting over noise.
I remember going to my grandmother as a child, upset over something someone had said or done, asking her the same question every child eventually asks: “But why would they say that? Why would they treat me that way?” She would look at me, completely unbothered, and say the same thing every time: “Lisa-Ann, the cream always rises to the top.”
*BTW: She was the only person who ever called me by my full first name. Her own name was Antoinette, and she loved saying mine in full, even though I never quite loved hearing it 🤫.
At the time, I didn’t fully understand what she meant. But now, having matured along my own journey, I understand it completely. Lies, distortions, and fragile egos eventually sink under their own weight, while integrity, character, and truth naturally float to the surface over time. The soul doesn’t need to rush this. It already knows how the story ends.
True growth requires the courage to face reality with an open heart. When we choose to hide behind walls instead of honoring the connections that shaped us, even the painful ones, we interrupt our own emotional progress, our own becoming.
Ultimately, the maturity we bring to our endings dictates the peace we carry into our next beginnings, and the soul we bring with us when we get there.
If any of this resonated, and you’re sitting with your own version of this pattern right now, a limited number of private sessions are opening for October and November. Sometimes it helps to have support seeing your own patterns clearly enough to finally answer the question, instead of living through it again. Here’s the link to book a session.
Insightful, as ever! Thank you Lisa! Btw- we have a long line of Antoinette’s in our family.🥰
